As humans, we are built from the inside out. We have a soul, a spirit, internal organs, our skeleton, and our skin.
For each of us to be truly healthy, it's important to look after all those aspects. Here are 9 things you can do every day to help your outer beauty shine.
1. Sleep
If you've heard it once then you've heard it a thousand times. We need adequate amounts of sleep!
But here's why... our bodies need sleep for our cells to regenerate. It's not just for your brain function and memory.
Without proper rest, our bodies can't heal, which leads to poor function overall, including skin health.
2. Warm water and apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar helps our body's PH levels return to a healthy balance. Research has shown that disease and bacteria can't live in an alkaline environment.
A daily cup or two of warm water with a shot of apple cider vinegar can bring your body's acid levels down and improve your overall feeling of health and wellbeing. In turn, leading to healthier skin.
It's an acquired taste, like Vegemite, but if you're struggling with the tang of the apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon of good-quality natural honey will take the edge off and provide even more benefits to your system.
3. Don't forget to hydrate
Our bodies are made up of 60 per cent water. It covers most of the planet. It's essential to life.
It's important that we keep the levels right by drinking enough throughout the day. Even if you haven't had a chance to move much or it's cold outside and you're not technically thirsty.
Give your cells a chance to restore and heal by giving them the hydration they both need and deserve. They're working hard to keep us healthy! Make sure you've drunk enough water each day so that your organs are hydrated, and your skin cells will get their share.
4. Shake that booty
Exercise leads to a higher heart rate and gets the blood moving. This helps improve circulation, flushes out impurities, and is great for your soul and mental health.
Hate exercising? You're not the only one! Everyone has something that they enjoy doing. Maybe Quidditch or Ultimate Frisby is more your jam. The type is not as important as the act itself.
If you hate the gym, try dancing it out! Put on some tunes and dance like no-one's watching. There's no wrong way to move and raise the ticker. After all, dancers are incredibly strong humans!
5. We may be Aussies, but sun care matters... even in winter!
It's been drilled into us since we were little tackers... Slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide. Year after year, both children and adults see the same ads and the posters, but how often do we take it seriously?
Sure, in the middle of a heatwave we certainly do. We stay inside or we lather on the sunscreen. But in the middle of winter when the sun is barely shining through the clouds? We're in a hurry to get out the door and can find ourselves thinking, 'Nah. I'm fine without it'.
A good-quality sunscreen or tinted moisturiser is necessary every day, come rain or shine. UV rays don't discriminate!
6. Say cheese
Laughter and smiling are one of nature's best medicines. Have you ever walked down the street and looked at people's faces? It's not hard to see someone who is truly enjoying the moment they're in. A group of people in a restaurant laughing at a shared joke. Their laugh lines and smile lines are visible.
If we're honest... they're the people we want to be around. Laughter increases your endorphin levels, much like exercising. This happiness will give your skin a brighter glow. Your natural skincare products will only enhance this!
7. Take a second to stare at the butterflies
Life has gotten fast-paced. With the go, go, go and the constant hustle, it can be hard to wind down and give our body a chance to settle. Higher stress hormones and adrenaline levels can seriously affect the health of your organs and mind.
Have you ever been to a child's sports game and seen one or two distracted by a butterfly or a bird or a bee? Yes, they may be in the middle of a game, but the sense of wonder is still there.
As adults, we can get so busy rushing from point A to B. Try to take a moment each day to 'stop and smell the roses'.
8. Disconnect from the tech
It's true. Technology has made many aspects of modern life so much easier. Getting around, talking to loved ones overseas, finding any piece of information, even the most abstract or obscure, at the press of a button. But with this constant access, anxiety levels are rising and maintaining face-to-face relationships can become difficult.
We're all people. We all need the same things; love, connection, shelter, and safety. By putting down the electronics and spending physical time with someone, even if only a moment with a stranger, you can increase your happiness and contentment. This will show itself in your skin.
9. Finally... Use natural skincare products!
Now that you've done all that hard work to look after your internal body; your soul, your bones and cells, it's important to carry it through to the part of you that has the most contact with the outside world - your skin.
Did you know that your skin is your largest organ?
It controls what gets inside your body through absorption. Help it out by using truly natural and organic products.
When we look after our internal body, our outer body - our skin, hair, and face - will shine brighter.
Using natural beauty products and makeup will only enhance the true beauty that is already there in all of us.
